Congress stalls, but workers can’t wait: Fairness Project celebrates raising wages by over $22 billion through winning ballot campaigns, predicts wins in Alaska and Missouri.
In a major win for abortion rights and patient freedom, the Arizona for Abortion Access campaign submitted more than 820,000 signatures to qualify a ballot measure that would restore reproductive rights for millions of patients.
The ballot measure, which is supported by the Fairness Project, would require businesses to guarantee at least 1 hour of paid leave for every 30 hours worked.
Arizona, Arkansas and Nebraska face deadlines for signatures in July, according to the Fairness Project, a ballot initiative-focused group that has been assisting volunteers with financial and organizational resources in Arizona, Florida, Montana and Missouri. The Project also worked on the successful ballot initiatives in Michigan and Ohio.
The campaign, led by a coalition of state-based organizations and supported by the Fairness Project, is the latest to mark this milestone in an election year that is likely to have abortion- and reproductive rights-related ballot measures in more states than ever.

Kelly Hall, the executive director of The Fairness Project, one of the national groups backing the CI-128 campaign, said the opposition tactics playing out in Montana are “nearly identical” to those happening in other states considering reproductive rights initiatives, such as Arizona and Missouri.
This year, numerous state legislatures have advanced bills to further restrict voters’ agency to pass laws at the ballot box, with some being referred to voters for the 2024 election.
