Redistricting on the Ballot: Campaign Asks Colorado Voters to Draw New Congressional Map
DENVER, CO – Today, a new citizen-led ballot campaign, Coloradans for a Level Playing Field, launched at the state capitol in Denver. Their mission is straightforward: to put the power in the hands of Colorado voters to approve congressional district maps.
Backing this grassroots effort is the Fairness Project, one of the nation’s largest funders and strategic partners of ballot measure campaigns. The organization is supporting multiple ballot measures across the country that aim to give voters the power to vote directly on their own congressional districts. It’s part of the organization’s renewed commitment in the 2026 cycle and beyond to support local campaigns that are harnessing the power of the ballot measure to protect American democracy.
In response to today’s announcement, Hannah Ledford, Deputy Executive Director of the Fairness Project, issued the following statement:
“Across our country, free and fair elections are under attack. Coloradans for a Level Playing Field is working to do precisely what their name plainly states: level the playing field to make free and fair elections a reality in 2026 and beyond. While the campaign launching today will operate in Colorado, their good work should be a shot in the arm for everyone who values American democracy.”
Ledford continued, “Ballot measures are a critical tool in voters’ toolbox to protect their rights and defend democracy. Already, campaigns are gearing up to restore fairness in our elections, protect access to the ballot measure process, keep state courts nonpartisan, and prevent dangerous constitutional conventions. The Fairness Project is proud to support citizen-driven campaigns that are doing the hard work on the ground to defend our democracy.”
