Phoenix, AZ — Today, the Arizona Supreme Court ruled to uphold an abortion ban from 1864, outlawing virtually all abortions in the state and allowing medical professionals who perform abortions to be prosecuted and imprisoned.

In response, Fairness Project Executive Director Kelly Hall issued the following statement:

“This is a crisis for the people of Arizona. It’s beyond comprehension that the Arizona Supreme Court would allow a total abortion ban that predates Arizona’s statehood to be the law of the land. This news is devastating, and thankfully there is a promising path to restore and protect abortion rights in Arizona this November. Arizona for Abortion Access has been campaigning tirelessly for their amendment to secure Arizonans’ right to make their own health care choices, and it has already collected more than half a million signatures. The stakes of this election could not be higher, and the Fairness Project is doing everything we can to support the campaign and ensure their path to victory.”

The Fairness Project has made seven-figure investments to support reproductive rights ballot measures in 2024, including more than $3.1 million to the Arizona for Abortion Access campaign. It is also actively supporting the Missourians for Constitutional Freedom campaign, the Montanans Securing Reproductive Rights campaign, the Floridians Protecting Freedom campaign, and other efforts currently in development.
