Jefferson City, MO – Last week, the Missouri Supreme Court ruled that Amendment 6 will appear on the November ballot, providing voters with the chance to proactively strengthen the ballot measure process while enshrining in law new protections against interference by Jefferson City politicians.
Amendment 6 would require ballot summaries to be clear, unbiased, accurate, and easy to understand, reaffirm Missourians’ right to direct democracy by limiting politicians’ ability to block citizen-initiated measures, and limit politicians’ ability to reverse laws passed by ballot measure.
“The court has spoken, and Amendment 6 is on the ballot,” said Hannah Ledford, Executive Director of the Fairness Project, the nation’s leading ballot measure organization, which is backing the amendment. “Jefferson City politicians spent months trying to keep this measure off the ballot, showing exactly why Missourians need it. Amendment 6 will protect voters from misleading ballot language, attempts to block citizen-led campaigns, and efforts to overturn laws they have already passed. This is a major victory, but the fight is not over. Now, it is time to take our case to Missouri voters and win in November.”
